A funny Story of Backpack
71
There are stories about kids backpacks from the parents of previous generation that waits to unveil just after doing the shopping for school stuffs.
In our family, my Dad has a story about this one school backpack that according to him he used since he first started school till 8th grade. Technically he used the bag till forever. The story has always been told repetitively since kindergarten and almost every year whenever I and my brother got a new school backpacks.
Of course we are obliged to listen to Dad’s tale about “his own leather brown bag” because we don’t want Dad felt bad and got offended. Suddenly Mom will intervene to save the day and deliver her killing phrase “you and I both know that they just don’t make things as well as they used to when we were kids, Give the kids a break Dad!”
Thanks Mom, you are always been our knight in shining armor.
When doing shopping for school bags and other school stuffs my brother and I always goes with Mom and Dad stays at home. Well, that is most the sensible arrangement to do since Dad always reason out that our school bags last year are still good enough not to buy one. Not that Dad don’t want to buy new things for us, maybe he just see the practical side of the situation. However, Dad doesn’t understand that Batman designed backpack is out of my league, maybe little brother does.
When we stroll to the backpack section in the local store, my brother was attracted to this Optimus Prime (Transformers) designed backpack. He seems very fascinated on the bag that he begged to my mother to buy the kids bag for him. Of course, I didn’t blame my brother because I definitely like Prime and the Transformer movie.
But what’s with the flashy cartoon characters designed backpacks that younger children today are so captivated and even fight for it just to include the stuff in the push cart? When I was at my brother’s age, my school backpack was just a plain black bag but definitely rocks. No webs of “spidie” and high-tech weapons of Batman. But seeing my brother, how proud he is and happy of having the Prime backpack for this school year, well, I don’t want to bother to search for an answer. The smile in my little brother face speaks a thousand of valid reasons.
And ask what the school backpack I brought for myself? (Well, Mom buys it using Dad’s money). I buy my usual plain black backpack to enhance the suspense aura. lol.

Great post! I enjoyed reading this article. it reminds me of my childhood. LOL! I'm not so old though yet, my childhood was kinda like this. Every time it's back to school time, I would really demand for a new backpack but my dad would always offer his 'ancient' backpack! And I would burst into tears coz i know my friends will just laugh at me but dad would understand me and he'll not allow that to happen. So I would always have a new school bag every new school year. you are such a great blogger! Looks like we know each other, this is my story,LOL! Kinda similar only, very similar. I was laughing all throughout the article as I read it. very nice! Thumbs up!
Awesome! You captured my attention as I was browsing google. I had fun reading your post, it's fantastic! This kind of situation happens not just in boys' lives but also in girls. in my case, mom would always talk about my sister's old backpacks. But dad would save me from that situation, (Thanks dad!). You remind me of what happened a year ago. Anyway, the whole article is nice and you are such a great writer. :)))
